Official or not

Rust's in-game Official tab against everything else

Official servers are the ones in Rust's in-game Official tab: Facepunch's own and its partners', such as RustSpain. Rust Metrics keeps that list by hand, by hostname and address. Everything else is a community or modded server.

Flight manual · the player count

Check: players. 91,924 on 11,798 public servers right now, 842 waiting in queues. Last reading 27 Oct 2026, 16:10 UTC. This page shows that figure across the last day and the last months, then splits it: modded or vanilla, game mode, group size, gather rate, region, wipe day. One pattern holds most days: a small share of servers carries most of the players, and the evening peak sits around twice the quiet hours.

How the players split

Every server online is counted once in each breakdown, so each one adds up to the 91,924 players on 11,798 servers.

rates, rules and plugins

Oxide runs on 7,483 servers with 54,948 players, Carbon on 1,893 with 16,910. 2,664 servers with 45,765 players call themselves vanilla.

Questions

4 items · open each to read
  1. 1.How many players is Rust running right now?

Read the top of the page: that is 91,924, the sum of every public server's reported population at the last refresh, five minutes ago or less. Servers that stop reporting drop out of the total rather than holding a stale figure.

  2. 2.Does this count match Steam's?

No, and it should not. Steam counts clients running the game, including menus, loading screens and servers that never list publicly. Rust Metrics counts only players reported on public servers, which is what lets the page split them by mode, group size and region.

  3. 3.What time of day is the count highest?

The reading peaks in the European evening, with a second rise in North American hours. The by-hour chart shows each hour in UTC over the past seven days, so compare your own play time against it before you pick a server.

  4. 4.Why do so few servers hold most of the players?

Population follows a steep curve: a short list of large servers carries a large share of the total, and a long tail of small servers shares the rest. The distribution chart above counts servers by population band, so you can see where the crowd sits today.
