About Rust Metrics
Check: every public Rust server, read every five minutes. Figure first, then the reading.
Rust Metrics exists because the in-game browser tells you little about how a server actually runs. The site takes Steam's public Rust server list, with names, player counts, queues and published tags. It also queries each server directly for map seed, fps, uptime and entity count. Not every server answers a direct query; where it does not, the page shows only what Steam publishes.
From those two sources the site keeps population against slots, wipe times and history for every public server. Check: population. Then the reading, then your decision. Use the live server list to compare, or the player count page for the wider picture. Every figure refreshes about every five minutes.
Rankings use player count over the past week, hour by hour. A server that holds a steady population ranks above one that fills for a single evening after a wipe. Lists are ordered by that player count, never by payment.
Rust Metrics is independent and built by Rust players. It is not affiliated with Facepunch Studios and nothing here is endorsed by them. Server names, descriptions and images belong to the people who run those servers.
All readings come from what servers publish about themselves. If your server looks wrong, check its own settings first; changes appear within about five minutes. If the reading is still off, write to hello@rustmetrics.world.
Questions
3 items · open each to read1.Where does the server data come from?
From Steam's public Rust server list and from direct queries to each server. Steam gives names, player counts, queues and tags. Direct queries return map seed, fps, uptime and entity count where the server answers. Some servers do not answer direct queries, so their pages show only Steam data.
2.How often are the figures updated?
Every five minutes. Population, fps, uptime and entity count refresh on that cycle. If a change on your server has not appeared after about five minutes, check the server's own settings before contacting us.
3.How are the server rankings ordered?
By player count over the past week, hour by hour. A server that stays busy across the week ranks above one that fills only after a wipe. Payment does not affect the order. You can see the current order on the best Rust servers page.
